Collection of wartime manuscript maps with copies of other war items related to Stanley. 37 maps document Sherman's army from Chattanooga to Atlanta, the march to the sea and then up to the Carolinas. The last map (38) is the Battle of Chancellorsville. Stanley enlisted as a corporal in July 1862 at Elmira and served in the 107th New York Vols., as a topographical engineer. A duplicate commission (in this collection) notes him as first Lieutenant in the 65th New York. The maps are illustrated in Earl B. McElfresh, Maps and Mapmakers of the Civil War pp. 120, 177-181.
