At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discharges Stanley upon the expiration of his term of service in the 107th New York Volunteers, where he spent two years first as a clerk and later as an assistant topographical engineer. Made in accordance with Special Orders No. 43. Written near Washington, D.C. Buttick was Captain and Assistant Adjutant General. (Same as GLC02710.45.02).
