Ore-Giron’s piece translates six original oil paintings into twenty-four glass mosaic panels. The abstract works pay homage (as the title notes) to hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest. Their debut 1990 album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, combined jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll samples with positive-minded, Afrocentric lyrics, a sub-movement of late 1980s and early 1990s hip-hop found in the Native Tongues collective.
