All-American News: “Dr. Charles Drew and Freedman’s Hospital”

All-American News was the first newsreel series produced for an African American audience. Made in the 1940s and 1950s, it was intended to encourage Black Americans to support the war effort and to reflect an African American perspective on world and national events. This segment highlights medical advances at Freedmen’s Hospital (now Howard University Hospital) in Washington, DC, led by Professor of Medicine Charles Drew.
