At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to Edward Ogden, Sarah Ogden's husband. Asks Mr. Ogden to mail him a check payable to his name. Adds that his health has improved since he returned home. Envelope includes "T. Morris Perot & CO..." letterhead which includes a mortar & pestle with the saying, "In Medicines, Quality is of the first Importance." The stamp has been clipped from the envelope.
