Collection includes 153 letters and envelopes, a photograph album with 27 cartes-de-visite, three objects, ephemera, one book, and one marriage certificate.
The first section includes 137 letters, 84 accompanying envelopes, and 10 unaccompanied envelopes, mostly from soldiers to Sarah Ogden regarding her service as hospital volunteer during the Civil War. Includes details on the soldiers and battle content. Identifies 20 patients (one of whom is John Walker, a 13 year old drummer boy), four male nurses and stewards.
Correspondences, (16 letters), are letters from Edward Ogden to his wife (Sarah Ogden) with 9 accompanying envelopes. The letters date from September 1862 through July 1863.
A photograph album with 27 cartes-de-visite, mostly of soldiers whom Ogden provided service to while at the Broad and Cherry Streets Hospital located in Philadelphia. Inventory is available.
