At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes his appreciation of how Ogden has "faithfully ministered to the wants of the sick and wounded." Sends news concerning past patients from the "Broad and Cherry [Streets Hospital]" in Philadelphia. He is still at the "Pencote Battery," enjoying himself "as well as could be expected under the circumstances." A three cent stamp is included on the envelope. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner.
