Writes from Mt. Holly, a present day township in Burlington County, New Jersey. Inquires about the condition of his son, Thomas, about whom he has received contradictory reports. Says he traveled to Washington, D. C. to obtain information and spoke with an officer from his son's regiment. The officer told him that his son had been taken prisoner, but could not say whether or not he was wounded. States it has been four weeks since his son was last seen on the field and there has been no mention of his name in any of the army lists. Envelope includes a three cent stamp.
