Brandy stating that the rations were received.

Title: Monthly abstract of extra issues, under the contract for the states of NYork & Jersey in the month of August, 1783

List of extra rations issued in August 1783. A total of 1,805 and 1/2 extra rations were issued for that month. The groups that received issues included: army prisoners, men on garrison fatigue duty, engineering department, police officers of the garrison, Indians, bargemen, discharged soldiers, artillery artificers, soldiers on command at sundry places, prisoners released from captivity, and British deserters. Colonel James Livingston was issued 155 of those extra rations.

List of extra rations issued at West Point. A total of 1,021 and 1/2 extra rations were provided in August 1783. The groups that received rations included: army prisoners, men on garrison fatigue duty, the engineering department, police officers of the garrison, Indians, the Commander in Chief's bargemen, discharged persons, General Huntington's bargemen, and artillery artificers.

Title: [Disposal of one hundred suits of clothing]

Written and signed for Knox by Samuel Shaw, Knox's aide-de-camp. Copy of a receipt for the disposal of 100 suits of clothing to the corps of artillery at Middlebrook, New Jersey on 2 July 1777. The clothing was sent from Philadelphia. The suits included coats, vests, breeches, stockings, shoes, and hats. The suits were issued to the companies of Captains Bauman, Doughty, Drury, Lillie, and Wool.

Provision return written by Lieutenant E. J. Parker of the 1st Massachusetts Regiment. It notes that 14 men were issued a total of 210 rations from 1-15 September. Note on second page, signed by a Stephen Patterson with a mark, states that the rations were received at Newburgh, New York.

Docket signed by a Jacob [Frost] stating the rations were received.

Docket is signed by a Tolberz, who used an "X" for his mark, stating that brandy was received.

Provision return signed by Captain Means stating that the 2nd Massachusetts received 136 rations and the 3rd Massachusetts received 12 rations. The document claims that a total of 158 rations were issued. The 10 ration discrepancy is not explained. Note on verso signed by a Sargent Calvin Sears states that the contractor for New Jersey and New York delivered the 158 rations to New Brunswick.

Gives more details on her family and the winter weather. Signs off, "I believe your son and family are well." Envelope addressed to Mr. A. Gillett, South Valley, New York.

Letter has the logo of the "U.S. Christian Commission," which was a women's organization formed in 1861 to distribute Bibles, goods and supplies to the Union army.
