Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes about her work schedule. Expresses concern about when he is coming and if they will get married or not. Tells him that "your picture is very nice it looks just as I dreamed you did all but the whiskers oh how much I like to see whiskers." Adds a postscript dated 7 July, telling him that she will go to Springwater on the 12th and is hoping to see him while she is there.
