At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One newsmap entitled, "Nazis Being Forced From Offensive to Defensive Position" dated February 22, 1943. Consists of a map of Germany with legends detailing how the Nazi army has set up defenses around its borders and other territories. Reverse side contains articles related to war events in Algeria and the Nazi army. One article makes reference to a demarcation line prohibiting Jewish people and others from crossing. Also printed is the Farmer's Market Today column highlighting a restaurant, Castillo's Spanish Kitchen.
