At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Collection of newspaper clippings related to World War II dated 1942-1945. Consist of 102 items belonging to various Los Angeles area newspaper publications including: Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Herald Examiner and the Los Angeles Daily Herald. Includes newspaper maps, magazine clippings, with fuel ration stamps. Newsmaps focused on a specific region concerned with World War II. This includes specific fronts and areas of combat as well as areas of importance for war industry on both the Allies and Axis powers. Each map explains the importance of the area and in some cases shows troop movements. Also contains highlights of the deaths of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Adolf Hitler.
