At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One letter Margaret to Frances Crist. This letter is written by another member of the family named Margaret, not Margaret Lobik. It was forwarded to Margret Lobick by Frances Crist. She is out in California writing to Aunt Frances, about the weather and how there is less fog in the winter. She also mentions a visit by Maybell and Dorothy, and invites Frances to visit as well. The envelope is blank. This letter is undated but it was enclosed with GLC09579.01.06.01, and GLC09579.01.06.02
