Richard writes how much he loves and misses Joyce. He says that they are on the mountain and it looks like they won't be going in for 3 or 4 days, but while they sit around the guys are making things up. One thing was, "The grunts have windows, the lifers have wifes, They sit Each day and play with our lifes, Making Mistakes that cost us our men going out the Next Day and Doing it again and when its all over They'll make it a story turning all the senseless Deaths into Glory. This is what we live for, This is why we Die." The second is, "you have never lived until you've nearly died for those who fight for it life has a flavor that the protected will never know." The third is, "when I die I'll go to heaven because I've spent my time in Hell." He spends the last 2 pages of the letter professing his love and saying how much he wants to come home and get married and play with their kids. He also promises not to fight with her because he is so sick of fighting.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
