In partnership with the National Cemetery Administration’s Veterans Legacy Program, we are pleased to offer free professional development sessions in spring 2024 focusing on different aspects of American Veterans’ and Service Members’ lives on and off the battlefield and how to effectively bring that content back to the classroom. As a part of this series, we are now offering a virtual workshop:

World War II Portraits of Service: African American Veterans of the 761st Tank Battalion
- Scholar: Prof. Marcus Cox (Fayetteville State University)
- Master Teacher: Toby Smith
- Virtual Tour Site: Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery
- Stipend for Participants: $50.00
Professor Cox’s lecture will focus on the experiences of African American soldiers serving in the 761st Tank Battalion. The pedagogy portion of the workshop provides an opportunity to use primary source analysis to understand the myriad reasons women served in World War II. As a part of the workshop, participants will get a virtual tour of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Missouri.
Participants will receive a certificate for 2.5 hours of professional development. To receive the $50.00 stipend, participants must be present for the entire workshop.
