The four lessons in this unit explore the arrival of the Pilgrims in Massachusetts, looking in particular at the text of the Mayflower Compact and a letter about the "First Thanksgiving." The students will use both text and illustrations to demonstrate their understanding of the documents and events. The Historical Background for teachers focuses on the Wampanoags and how they reacted to the arrival of the English colonizers.
