In the three lessons in this unit, students will explore three iconic American symbols: the Flag of the United States of America, the Statue of Liberty, and the Great Seal of the United States. Understanding the creation and use of these iconic symbols can lead to a shared understanding of America’s history, principles, and aspirations. The students will demonstrate their understanding of these symbols and their meaning through class discussions and drawn or written assessment activities as directed in each lesson.
