Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One issue of Come Out! dated November 14, 1969. Cover page consists of the publication's manifesto meant to give a voice to the gay community. Includes artwork, poetry, fiction, interviews and other stories related to issues pertaining to equal rights and voting. The main article of the publication criticizes the Village Voice as discriminating against the gay community due to their coverage of the Stonewall Riots in July 1969.
