At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One poster printed by the Coordinador de Asuntos Interamericanos, dated 1941-1945. Poster features a stereotypical caricature of a South American man rolling up his sleeves in a threatening manner towards caricatures of Adolf Hitler and three Nazi officers. Hitler and his officers have been halted and ran into each other's backs. Behind the five men is an outline of Latin America. The art in the poster is by Arias Bernal.
