At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

A luncheon menu in honor of Brigadier General, Madison Pearson at Camp Edge, Fort Dix, New Jersey. It includes a short speech by Lewis B. Ballatyne, Brigaidier General, NJNG, Commanding, New Jersey State Guard.

A post-it note included in the collection notes that "Bob is listed as a guest on the back page. At this time he was an aide to Brigadier General Madison Pearson in Fort Dix, 1945."
