A thank you letter from Charles Stenholm, the House representative for Texas's seventeenth district, to Moorhead for his support on a substitution to the family medical leave act. The substitution that Stenholm put forth did not pass, but would have provided a statutory hiring preference to workers who leave their jobs to fulfill family responsibilities. According to Stenholm this would include leaving the workforce for 6 years to care for a new child, and up to 2 years for a seriously ill family member. When the worker wished to return to the workforce they would be reinstated if a position of similar pay and status was available. If there was no position they would be entitled to the first position that came available within a year as long as they were qualified for it. Stenholm also mentions that his substitute was the only one that didn't mandate an employment benefit. This letter is on Stenholm's House of Representative stationery.
