Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Nellie is writing to Davis on a telegraph sent to her in Rome from Rod. The telegraph confirms for Nellie that Rod is "in for transfer," which means they can visit. She is very happy about this news. The weather has been raining since she arrived. Nellie writes she sent a few packages back to friends from Greece and has bought Christmas presents. She gives condolences about Myrtle dying.
