At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Sylvia states that she needs to ask Joe for help with a Victory Poster. Reports on Moe's parents and friends. Tells him his father wishes him luck and a "Happy [Jewish] New Year." An air raid siren has gone off and she must run as she is the Police Precinct Rep. of Emergency Welfare Center. Written at 11:30 PM at home. Had a hectic experience, caught in the car during the blackout. Went to the 67th Police Precinct and took shelter there. Letter is incomplete and ends abruptly.
