Lists all of the things he wants send in his box: "1 pair of blue shirts of the color of blue yard not such a dark blue as you have made as they might fade. 1 pair of boots just like the last pair that Mellon made for me…1 pair of good woolen gloves and a pair of light buck the same as I have had. 1 pair of good suspenders. 2 handkerchiefs. 1 bunch of envelopes such as you send your letters to me in." List also includes paper, pencils, a portfolio, a hatchet, a tin cup, tobacco, and some grease for the boots. Has been on picket duty for a few days, but hopes to be heading back to camp soon. Will be getting a new captain soon, since Bliss tried to get his discharge. "We," unlike officers, "can't resign when we get tired of this life."

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
