Glad to hear from her that all is well. Was sent along with nine other men to unload some horses at the depot. Got dinner in town; did not return until dark. His captain has been looking to get into a new regiment. Samantha wrote that she wanted to come visit if he was not coming home any time soon. "If they come if you want to come," she is welcome to come. Warns that it is very hard to get down to his location because they would not be able to get close to the camp until dark. James Slayton is coming, and he can let her know if it is possible to visit. Wishes she would go to Avoca and see if she can get photographs to send to him. Asks her to write him soon and to send gum. Asks her to "tell me all about everything."
