Envelope has free frank signature of Reuben Eaton Fenton. Writes from Camp Wool. Received food from his family, which pleased him greatly as it means that they are "as comfortable as when" he left. Discusses an unnamed woman who has passed away. He will continue to think of her as a happy and joyful spirit. States that they were a family on Earth for a short time but now one has gone to the "better land." Recently, they have been building better graves, with large wooden slabs. Writes about a plan they thought of: Captain Millard and 100 men would lead a night scout into Virginia. They went to Hampstead instead and were fired at by pickets several times but returned safely to the Gunboat Satellite. Company B fired back, returning the shots with vigor. However, no man was wounded despite bullets flying all around them. It was very remarkable that every man was safe. They did their work and were all onboard the ship before daylight. Hopes he will be able to get to Washington this week. If not, he will continue writing to his wife normally. Tells his wife that if the wood pile is running low, she must immediately tell Cady to buy 10 logs at once.
