Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Claims that the Creek Nation had received a crippling defeat from General Andrew Jackson in Georgia. Describes battles between the French and Russia in France (as part of the Napoleonic Wars). Includes on page two an account of the Creeks' defeat by Jackson which took place on 17 April 1814.
