Signed in print by Lincoln and Edwin M. Stanton. Certificate of the President's thanks for honorable service given to Corporal Samuel Francis, Company F, 133rd Ohio National Guard Volunteer Infantry as a "token of his having honorably served as a volunteer for one hundred days." Document is an official acknowledgment of thanks for the unit's services during recent campaigns. Pencil note on verso says "Samuel Francis Discharge." Top of document says it registered as "No. 5370" with a stamped signature of Assistant Adjutant General "E.D. Townsend." Initials "A.J.P." at bottom left corner of recto. Was folded previously and has some stains on recto and verso. One bust engraving of Lincoln included as collateral.
