Writes that he enjoys hearing from her and that it must be hard for soldiers who do not have people to communicate with. Mentions that he went to church in the city and fell asleep. He is impatient for the Regiment to start moving. Reports that Lt. Col. Hamilton and Thomas Grimke Rhett have arrived and Maxcy Gregg is expected. He fears Gregg will move them away from the influences of the city. Explains the company is now 73 or 74 men and they expect Barnwell to arrive with 10 or 15 more. Discusses a flag Colcock and the ladies are making. Remarks that he will either die under it or return to her with it. Reports that the camp is healthy. Asks her to go to McPhersonville in October and cousin Patty will take good care of her. Comments that he wishes he could be there too. Hutson was engaged to Colcock in 1861 but she died in late 1861 before they were married. He was a Corporal, 1st South Carolina Infantry, during the Civil War.
