"I have this moment received Genl. Pope's dispatch of the 5th, saying that he had taken & could hold Point Pleasant. This may change the program, & it may be advisable of him to remain. Send messengers to him & get latest news as soon as possible & telegraph. His last dispatch was three days in reaching here. The retrograde movement of his forces should not be made till further advises."
