Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Monteil that he will not be allowed to command a ship other than the Ardent. Tells Monteil he can return to France as a passenger aboard another ship commanded by Admiral Barras if he would prefer. Written on board the Ville de Paris, near Saint Kitts. A retained copy identical to GLC04322.09.
