At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Describes a sermon he attended with the regiment on the subject of maliciousness. The regiment still has yet to leave Hartford but he states that they will leave on Wednesday afternoon (14 October was a Monday). Letter was fowarded to Coit's brother by Coit's mother.
