Possibly to Colonel Edward Jay Allen of the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry. No year indicated. General Fremont writes, "...I am sincerely gratified by the regard of yourself and your command. It will certainly give me pleasure to have you with me and so soon as I am ordered into the field I will do that best I can to have you there too." Notes that he plans to return to St. Louis, Missouri (Fremont was removed from command of the Department of the West in November 1861).
Previous year inferred was 1861, however, according to the American Civil War Database, Edward Jay Allen enlisted in 1862.
