At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Walker, a United States Senator from Mississippi, relates that he has not received an abolition pamphlet to which Reynolds previously referred. Mentions another pamphlet, also pertaining to abolition, and notes the importance of its circulation. Reports that the Central Committee of Virginia requested 5000 copies of the pamphlet.
