At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written to the Massacusetts Legislature defending Henry Knox's claims to the Waldo patent against a petition sent to the legislature by many residents of the patent. Argues against the claims made in the petition, and states that the land rightfully belongs to Knox. Part of the sixth page is on a separate sheet, that was once attached.
