At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses legal issues concerning the land owned and taxes owed by his late mother-in-law, Hannah Flucker, in Falmouth, Maine. Extracts are included which list out who the land was sold to and the amount of taxes paid. Expresses his desire to prevent future lands from being sold for taxes in the future.
