At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written from Fort Pownall, at present-day Stockton Springs, Maine. Discusses surveying, settling and planning a new town with a Mr. Chadwick, possibly on Flucker's land. Adds that he received cider from Mr. Winslow. Touches briefly on "the confusions all over the continent," and hopes they "may end in peace & good neighbourhood."
