At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox he sent him and the doctor some melons. Discusses the progress Knox is making with the people on the patent lands (possibly the Waldo patent lands). Mentions he can forward Knox an addition to his stores (funds) if he stays another month. Speaks of the doctor and comments he is a lady's man.
