At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox his house (Montpelier) has not been raised yet but will be so in eight to ten days. Assures Knox there has not been any remissness of business, the delay is mainly weather related. Also notes some of the brick layers have been injured. Comments some of the material they have received has been damaged.
