Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Duer signs in text as "Mr. Duer." Presents a proposal for Knox to relinquish to Duer "his Right in the Pre Emption of Two million acres of land made of the State of Massachusetts of by Henry Jackson and Royal Flint..." Discusses in detail seven different features of the proposal, mostly covering financial aspects of the deal.
