At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Is disappointed that he has not heard from Royal Flint on the purchase of Mount Desert in Maine. Having authority to negotiate, he will make advances to Mr. Greigore tomorrow. Will receive the maps by Captain Chessman, who is on the Brig "Ceres" on its way to Philadelphia and that he will observe the situation of their tract from them. Notes much depends on the information being sent by Phineas Bruce.
