Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports, "The Legislature is up- & no great damage done- tomorrow for electioneering-" Expects that John Hancock will retain his post as Governor of Massachusetts. Predicts that General Benjamin Lincoln or James Warren will be elected Lieutenant Governor. Notes, "both sides are upon the stretch of exertion for the choice of Senators."
