Thanks him for his letter. Writes, "By the contents of Mr. Macomb's, friendly letter, I am convinced, how wrong and presumptuous I was, in my former letter to you, to desire you to write to so many gentlemen, and to take so much trouble for a man entire [a] stranger to you."
