Accuses Hunt of deceit, possibly facetiously. Says he wishes he could have driven up, possibly to visit Hunt, and that Mrs. Lee also wished Hunt could have visited. Gossips about current events, calling Benjamin Franklin Butler a "damned scoundrel" for slandering his hero. Deplores the current state of politics. Mentions Charles Sumner, Stonewall Jackson, and Robert E. Lee. About Jackson, writes "When you think about what a d-d fool S. J. was, & what a sublime soldier, what estimate can you put on military achievements." In a postscript, refers to Byron, the poet. Possibly created in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
