Receipt written by Livingston, the future Governor of New Jersey. Countersigned by Dayton as a merchant in New Jersey and future general in Revolutionary War. Dayton was to join the Committee of Safety in New Jersey in December 1774 and Livingston was on the local committee of correspondence. Dayton was paying taxes to Livingston of over 4 pounds from 23 September 1774 to November 1774. Dayton's signed note says he received the above of William Livingston on 8 April 1775. Place written inferred from the location of Livingston's home in New Jersey. Accompanied by a second, partial receipt from 1 June 1780. The name of "David Leavett" is on the partial receipt. Also several unidentifiable fragments in an envelope. One of the fragments has the name "Borden" on it.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
