A print of a photograph taken of Battery Williams in Corinth, MS. In October 1862, Confederate forces attacked Corinth in an attempt to recapture the strategically important rail lines there. Union forces had taken Corinth the previous spring and erected seven batteries to defend it. On 4 October 1862 the cannonade from Battery Williams devastated the Confederate troops attacking Battery Robinett[e].
