A print of a photograph taken of Battery Williams in Corinth, MS. In October 1862, Confederate forces attacked Corinth in an attempt to recapture the strategically important rail lines there. Union forces had taken Corinth the previous spring and erected seven batteries to defend it. On 4 October 1862 the cannonade from Battery Williams devastated the Confederate troops attacking Battery Robinett[e]. A print of a photograph of the main building of the former Corona College in Corinth, MS. The building is three stories and made of brick. A horse-drawn ambulance is parked at the entrance. Note that the columns are also made of brick. Corona College was founded in 1857 as a female seminary. After the Battle of Shiloh in 1862, the Union Army commandeered the college to use as a hospital. The Army left the area in 1864 and burned the building to the ground, the college never re-opened. Washington became a major center for army services during the war.
