"An Essay" on the safety of the church is published on request of the Union, continued from the preceding issue. Short articles examine the death of Christianity ("A Dead Christianity"), wealth ("Men of Wealth"), belief in God ("Sweet Saying"), character ("Charaacter is Power"), and exercise ("Exercise"). "Army Correspondence" and "About the Soldiers" prints letters that describe soldiers' experiences at the front. An article describes the "South Carolina Institution for the Deaf, Dumb, and Blind." "Secular News" includes reports from the Battle of Vicksburg.
