Knox's response to the meeting held by the Committee in Waldoborough, Maine regarding the settlers land claims in Waldoborough, Maine. Knox agrees to a portion of the settlers claims including the "old Germans." Describes in further detail his decision respecting the settlers claims and any future claims to his lands.

Note on second page states Ulmer received another $295.24 from Knox. Date was taken from docket.

The original note was for the sum of $812 plus interest to be paid in three years for 200 acres of land in Hancock County, Maine. A note at the bottom of the last page states the bond was cancelled on 23 [September] 1802. Date was possibly written at a later date. Letter is possibly a duplicate of GLC02437.07709.

Signed by [Catherine] Carter and Hezekiah [Thorndick] as witnesses. Document is not signed by but appears to be in Henry Knox's handwriting. A receipt for a note from William Taggart to be paid in 1804 to Henry Knox in the sum of $444.72 for 200 acres of land in Hancock County, Maine. William Taggart notes on the last page that he relinquishes his right of the bond to Robert B. Cochran with the condition Cochran pays Taggart's note to Knox. There is another note below Cochran's note from Robert Houston regarding surveying the land. Date was added at later time in pencil.

Signed by Henry Knox and his wife, Lucy Knox. George Reid signed as a witness and David Fales signed as a witness and Justice of Peace. A bargain sale between Henry Knox and Israel Thorndike. Knox acknowledges he received $990 from Thorndike and assigns Thorndike a parcel of land (60 acres) in Thomaston, Maine. Document also states Thorndike owes a note for $300 plus interest and will receive another 200 acres of land. Various other notes and lots are also mentioned. Thomas [Price] noted at the bottom of the second page that the document was received and recorded.

Writes about "Sally Rumfield" (Countess Sarah Thompson Rumford) to her brother. Mentions she has only seen Rumford a couple of times. Says Rumford moved to Germany with her father and returned as a countess but a poor one. Quotes a friend saying the Countess had all her parties in Boston, Massachusetts and is well admired for everything but her shabby dress. Also appears to hint at Rumford's death. The second half of the letter is written on a smaller piece of paper.

Draft of a speech from the Massachusetts House of Representatives to the recently re-elected governor [Caleb Strong]. Discusses the importance of an independent judiciary as well as other issues of governance, and speaks approvingly of the president's attempt "to Rouse national spirit of defence." The 1 June 1803 address was published as "Answer of the House of Representatives to the Governor's speech at the opening of the session." Knox was a member of the state legislature at the time.
