At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by Henry Knox, and John Rynier and John Gleason as witnesses. A land bond for Robert Houston, payable to Knox. Houston gave Knox a note for $290 which is to be paid in three years plus interest for a 100 acre lot in Hancock County, Maine.
