Writes from a fort of the White Mountains. Says he has moved farther from home than he anticipated. Says he often thinks of Ogden and the other soldiers in the hospital. Describes the scenery of his new surroundings and complains of the cold. He tells her about mountain climbing in Maine and New Hampshire, and sightseeing in Boston and New York. Says he plans on visiting the hospital soon, and requests that Ogden please send a copy of his letter to Cornelia because writing materials are scarce, and he left his behind.

Mentions she received a letter from Alphonse on the same day, and could tell from his handwriting that he was still weak. Believes that Ogden has become almost like a mother to him. States she hopes that Ogden's efforts are rewarded by God, and asks that Ogden please write to inform her whether or not Alphonse will obtain a discharge.

Asks Ogden to send any word concerning their whereabouts or condition.

State is not listed, but was likely written from Greenwich, New York.

Writes she has no pasteboard at home, but would be able to find some elsewhere. Notes she has enclosed five dollars for the missing pasteboard. Mentions that Annie, [Latham], and Lilly filled a pushcart, and with the aid of an African American man brought it to the ward of a hospital. Upon arriving there, she found that the doctor was not there. Writes that Mr. Harmon was at their house that morning and left a note from the doctor. Written to "Sallie," likely referring to Sarah Ogden.

Says everything seems "very uncertain," and she believes that the grief and sadness of the nation appears to be the only definite thing.

The officers and the patients of the Filbert Street U.S.A. General Hospital are in debt to the Ladies' Committee of the Hospital for their attention to the sick and wounded soldiers. They thank the women for their services and convey "sincere wishes for their future health and happiness." On the back of the document is a list of the women in the Ladies' Committees for the 16th and Filbert Street Hospital and the 23rd and Filbert Street Hospital. Written to Sarah Ogden by Deuglin by order of Thomas B. Reed.
